Level One

Our Level I program is carefully designed to introduce beginners to this classical form of Yoga in a safe, supportive way. We begin with the classical breathing techniques and movements which are the core of this approach to Yoga. The original sequence of Primary Series is broken down in the same way that  Sri Pattabhi Jois broke it down in the early 70s while teaching the very first western students. These classes are designed for anyone who has the desire to learn yoga. All of our classes are noncompetative and generally include people of all ages.

Level Two

In this class the aspects of rhythm and internal heat are introduced. Here we begin to link the postures together with breath and the technique called vinyasa. The things learned in Level I  are put to very good use. After learning the fundamentals, people with backgrounds in physical fitness and active lifestyles will be comfortable with this level of practice right away.

Primary Series

This is the culmination of the of the previous two levels. This is the classical Primary Sequence taught in many places around the world. Previous yoga experience is recommended for this class. Primary is a hot, sweaty class. Here we begin to breath with great precision and learn to practice without missing a single breath. Aspects of strength, endurance, concentration, and deep structural alignment are introduced.

Mysore Class

Mysore class is a traditional format for teaching. Mysore is a town in South India where Ashtanga Yoga is taught. In this class the teacher works with each person individually and everyone is allowed to do their own individual practice. This approach teaches students to memorize the sequences very quickly. Also there is no need to try to keep up with the class. It may sound a little daunting to beginners, but this is actually a very comfortable way to learn. You will receive a lot of individual attention at first and then you can look at diagrams and practice the postures carefully under the watchful eye of an experienced teacher. For those who already know the sequences these classes offer a great freedom to move at your own pace. The hour before dawn is the traditional time for yoga practice. All levels of students are welcome in these classes.

Advanced

We call this class "advanced" in order to avoid any confusion. This the the 2nd series in Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga. The postures here are more demanding than the postures in any of the other classes. Students who are familiar and comfortable with Primary Series are welcome to join this class. It is best to ask one of the teachers before attending our Advanced class.

Ashtanga Playground

Ashtanga Playground is a challenging, improvisational class inspired by the traditional Ashtanga Yoga practice and the elements of dristi, ujjayi and vinyasa. This class deviates from the standard asana sequences of the primary and intermediate series, and instead selects asanas with a specific intention in mind (i.e., opening the hips, increasing the strength of the arms, working on inversions, etc.).  Ashtanga Playground aims to build body awareness, increase strength and flexibility, work gradually toward complex poses, and encourage relaxation with an extended savasana.

Advanced A

This is the real deal. Advanced Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga is one of the most beautiful disciplines.  This class is extremely difficult. You should check with us before coming if you have not attended before. We do not hold people back, but we are concerned that everyone has a good experience and can still walk the next day. Being "in pretty good shape and having done a few yoga classes" is not nearly enough for this class.

Teacher Training

Our approach to teacher training is simple. We do not certify or authorize anyone to do anything. We simply hold ongoing classes carefully explaining how to adjust students in postures, how to address specific problem areas with these adjustments, and how to do this safely and compassionately. These classes also include open discussions about teaching and how to refine our teaching skills. In our view teaching yoga is another aspect of learning yoga. As a student becomes more serious about the practice it will show in their body as well as their state of mind. Naturally friends and family will be curious and ask to be shown how to do some basic stretches. This is where the whole story really begins. All the certificates in the world will not make a teacher if there is not one already there. And for someone who is really meant to teach, having a certificate makes little or no difference. It is the knowledge that counts. Our intention is simply to help each individual to become the best teacher they can be. These classes are the same price as any of the other classes.

Private Classes

Private classes offer more personal attention with your practice. We can give you specific information to help deal with injuries or difficult areas of the practice, as well as how to evolve your practice, and take the next steps. It can also be a good way to get introduced to yoga so that you already know the basics before attending the public classes.
